Katawa Shoujo is a visual novel produced by the short-lived Four Leaf Studios. The protagonist, Hisao Nakai, is transferred to an academy that caters to the disabled and otherwise afflicted after a heart attack hospitalizes him in the winter. There, he meets five girls who are in Yamaku for their own reasons. Friends, and perhaps love, may await him there.

About five years ago concept work from a Japanese doujinshi artist was posted on 4chan /a/, depicting five girls with a variety of disabilities. Originally doujin leftovers, the idea of expanding the concept art into a full visual novel was surprisingly well received. Some time after permissions for using the characters, a team assembled under the name of Four Leaf Studios, homage to the boards that hosted the sprawling discussions.
An Act I demo was released about three years ago; Last week, the final production was released on Katawa Shoujo's main site for P2P clients. The site has experienced heavy traffic within the past several days, but the torrent is ever active. So far, it is only in English.
