102 No. 102
ATH-EW9

Ordered as a birthday indulgence and my first 'open' phones. Initial impressions: holy god they are beautiful and that is some incredible fidelity for such small drivers (28mm). Been listening for half an hour now. 320 kbps YMCK sounds more alive with these clip ons than on my Sennheiser 280s - the sound stage is much wider and the vocals are more ringing - but the highs need to relax a bit.

You know looking back, I wonder if I should have recommended another pair of headphones to you instead of those 280s.

I paid $50 for my 280s, and at that price I think everyone should have a pair. They are not the most musical things, but such is the nature of closed, monitor style phones. They are clear, comfortable, and provide excellent isolation. Served me well when I was living in an apartment in a loud neighborhood. Neighbors never bothered me at all.

They are pretty ugly, though. Obviously not for public use.
